UNAKITE
ANGER (RELEASE) | ANXIETY (OVERCOMING) | HEALTH | PATIENCE
Unakite is made of pink to salmon Orthoclase Feldspar, green Epidote and colourless to grey Quartz, all grown together. The name comes from the Unaka Range in the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States, where it was first described.
It began as Granite. Hot fluids moved through the rock and altered it, and part of the original Feldspar broke down and recrystallised as Epidote, which is where the green comes from. The Feldspar that survived kept its pink. Quartz fills the gaps between them.
Epidote and Feldspar sit at 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale and quartz at 7. The Appalachians are still the classic source, with more material from South Africa, Brazil, China and Zimbabwe.
