This exceptional specimen presents a complete Agate nodule split to reveal its extraordinary interior with both halves displayed in dialogue, the upper slice mounted vertically to expose the full radial architecture while its partner rests below, offering a second window into this geological treasure chest. At the heart of each half, clusters of pale blue botryoidal Chalcedony emerge, framed by delicate pink banding and surrounded by feathery Quartz inclusions.
The specimen's colouration reads as a masterclass in agate formation. The warm caramel-brown exterior gives way to translucent grey Chalcedony marked by distinctive plume structures radiating inward. These plume formations develop when Iron and Manganese-rich solutions infiltrate the silica gel during early solidification, creating the feathery dendritic patterns prized by collectors. A delicate pink band, likely coloured by trace Iron in a specific oxidation state, encircles the central cavity like a geological frame.
The botryoidal Chalcedony filling the core displays the classic "grape-like" habit that gives this formation its name, from the Greek botrys meaning bunch of grapes. Each rounded mass represents a separate nucleation point where microcrystalline quartz precipitated from silica-saturated fluids in the final stage of the nodule's formation, slowly filling the remaining void over millennia.
Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state produces agates of exceptional quality from the same Paraná Basin flood basalts that yield the country's famous Amethyst. Nodules preserving this combination of plume Agate, coloured banding, and pristine botryoidal centres represent the pinnacle of Brazilian Agate production.
Presented on a custom mount that displays both halves in concert, this piece offers a complete geological narrative.
