This exceptional specimen demonstrates the complete geological narrative of a Uruguayan Amethyst Geode with the rough, weathered Basalt exterior concealing a breathtaking interior cavity lined with crystals of extraordinary colour saturation.
The colour intensity displayed within this cavity represents the absolute pinnacle of Uruguayan production. The crystals approach the legendary "grape jelly" saturation. This extreme colouration results from the unique geochemistry of Uruguay's Artigas department deposits, where elevated Iron concentrations and optimal natural gamma radiation within the host Basalts produce Amethyst unrivalled by any other global source.
The specimen's zoning follows classic South American geode architecture: rough volcanic rind giving way to grey-green celadonite-stained Basalt, transitioning through a band of white crystalline Quartz before culminating in the Amethyst-lined cavity. This layered structure records 130 million years of geological history within the Paraná Basin flood Basalts.
The preservation of the complete Basalt exterior distinguishes this specimen from typical commercial geodes which are often cut and polished to maximise the crystal display.
