- Apatite forms in a number of geological environments but the Madagascan material is associated with Phosphate-rich igneous rocks, where crystals developed as mineral-rich magma slowly cooled. Its crystal structure is able to hold a variety of trace elements, which can influence both its colour and the subtle variations seen from one crystal to another.
The strength of the blue colour, combined with its clarity and naturally crystalline structure, is what makes Madagascan Blue Apatite particularly distinctive.
