A highly aesthetic specimen from the renowned Pegmatite deposits of Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, showcasing a pale blue Aquamarine crystal perched above lustrous black Schorl Tourmaline and snowy white Albite, with delicate Muscovite Mica adding further textural contrast. The combination of minerals creates a striking natural colour palette, with the transparent Pquamarine appearing to float above the darker assemblage beneath.
The Aquamarine is a gem variety of Beryl, coloured by trace amounts of Iron and crystallising in its characteristic hexagonal form. The black Tourmaline exhibits the deeply striated prism faces typical of Schorl, while the Albite forms a bright matrix of Feldspar crystals that provide both structural support and visual contrast. Fine Muscovite contributes silvery-white, platy crystals that reflect light across the specimen's surface.
This assemblage formed within a rare-element granitic Pegmatite, where volatile-rich residual melts allowed exceptionally large and well-formed crystals to develop. As the Pegmatite cooled, Feldspars crystallised first, followed by Tourmaline and Beryl from Boron and Beryllium rich fluids concentrated during the final stages of magmatic evolution. The result is a classic Himalayan Pegmatite association that records the complex sequence of mineral growth within one of the world's most celebrated crystal-producing regions.
