- Natural Citrine forms within quartz veins through geological processes spanning millions of years. The characteristic yellow to golden-brown coloration develops when trace amounts of iron are incorporated into the crystal structure during formation, typically under temperatures of 550-560°C deep within the earth's crust.
This variety of Quartz crystallises in hydrothermal environments and pegmatite formations, where silica-rich fluids slowly cool and solidify. The iron impurities undergo natural irradiation from surrounding radioactive minerals over geological time, creating the stone's distinctive warm hues without artificial treatment.
Authentic Natural Citrine is relatively rare compared to the more common heat-treated amethyst that dominates the market.
Natural Citrine colours ranging from pale yellow to deep amber, with clarity and saturation determined by the concentration of iron and the specific conditions present during crystallisation.
