A classic Peruvian Sulphide assemblage, this impressive specimen showcases crystallised Pyrite associated with Quartz and Sphalerite from the renowned Huanzala Mine. The cluster displays a dense covering of highly reflective Pyrite crystals, creating a metallic surface that contrasts beautifully with the translucent Quartz and darker Sphalerite matrix.
The Pyrite occurs as numerous sharp cubic and Pyritohedral crystals, their mirror-like faces reflecting light with exceptional brilliance. These crystals formed from Iron-rich hydrothermal fluids circulating through fractures and cavities deep within the host rock. The specimen's sparkling appearance is characteristic of Huanzala Pyrite, which is prized among collectors for its sharp crystal development and metallic lustre.
Intergrown with the Pyrite are white Quartz crystals representing a later phase of silica-rich mineralisation. Quartz commonly forms as hydrothermal fluids cool and become saturated with dissolved Silica, filling remaining open spaces within the vein system.
Dark Sphalerite, the principal ore mineral of Zinc, forms part of the underlying matrix and records the economic mineralisation for which the Huanzala deposit is famous. The close association of Sphalerite, Pyrite, and Quartz reflects the evolving chemistry of the hydrothermal system responsible for creating one of Peru's most important Polymetallic ore deposits.
