The interior of this piece is simply extraordinary. Viewed through the polished faces, the crystal reveals a compressed geological autobiography of phantom formations, trapped ancient water, negative crystals, and Smoky colouration occupying the same transparent matrix simultaneously.
Each phenomenon has a distinct origin. The phantoms, ghostly outlines of earlier crystal terminations suspended within the current form, record episodes of interrupted growth, moments when mineral deposition paused, a thin coating of foreign material settled on the exposed surface, and growth resumed around it, preserving the earlier crystal's silhouette as a permanent internal record. The Smoky zones, concentrated in the lower register, are the product of natural irradiation acting on Aluminium impurities within the Silicon Dioxide lattice. The Amethyst at the apex records a further change with the introduction of ferric Iron into the same lattice under different hydrothermal conditions, the two colourations occupying the same crystal as evidence of changing geochemistry across a single growth sequence.
