- This exceptional and rare crystal carries distinct geological events inside it.
The base colour is smoky, deep brown-black produced by natural irradiation. Zonal Amethyst is also evident, highlighting the changing conditions that existed during the growth of the crystal.,
Phantoms are also visible throughout the crystal. These occurred when growth stopped and a thin layer of foreign material settled across the crystal surface, and then growth resumed around it, enclosing the earlier form as a permanent internal outline.
Rutile needles run through the whole crystal in fine dark threads, titanium dioxide crystals enclosed within the quartz as it grew around them.
