The three-dimensional star is among the most demanding forms a stone carver can attempt. Every face must be flat, every angle consistent, every point sharp and symmetrical. In a material as unforgiving as Quartz, where fracture planes are unpredictable and inclusions may cut across any intended surface, producing a starof this size and definition requires both exceptional source material and exceptional skill.
The Quartz from which this star has been cut is predominantly clear, its transparency sufficient to carry light through the full depth of the form with the internal fracturing inclusions present. Those inclusions are not flaws. They are evidence of the crystal's natural history, of the hydrothermal conditions under which it grew, and they give the piece a visual depth. Each face catches light differently as the piece is viewed from different angles, the star's geometry multiplying the optical effects across its intersecting planes.
