- GEOLOGICAL FORMATION
- Arkansas occupies a unique position in the mineralogical world. The Ouachita Mountain region (spanning Montgomery, Garland, and Hot Springs counties) contains some of the oldest exposed Quartz-bearing formations on the continent, with crystals growing within Ordovician-age sandstones and shales approximately 450 million years old. This exceptional geological antiquity, combined with specific conditions of temperature, pressure, and silica saturation, produces Quartz of remarkable clarity and distinctive character.
The golden colouration suffusing this cluster results from Iron Oxide inclusions , likely limonite or goethite, that were incorporated into the crystal structure during formation or deposited as a thin coating on growth surfaces between crystallisation phases. This warm patina ranges from pale champagne to deep amber across the specimen, creating chromatic depth that distinguishes Arkansas Golden Quartz from the water-clear or smoky material more commonly produced by the region.
The cluster's architecture displays classic Arkansas character: multiple generations of crystal growth interlocking at varied angles, creating visual complexity and dimensional interest from every viewing position. Well-formed terminations throughout confirm careful extraction and minimal damage, no small achievement given the density of crystal points.
Presented upon a bespoke grey base, this piece embodies the heritage of American mineral collecting.
