This remarkable specimen presents a partially polished Quartz crystal containing a mesmerising internal landscape — suspended clouds of Iron Oxide, Chlorite, and fine Rutile needles that together create the appearance of a miniature world frozen within crystalline glass. The polished faces offer pristine windows into this geological terrarium, while natural crystal surfaces preserve the authentic character of its formation.
Lodolite, also known as garden Quartz or scenic Quartz, develops when quartz crystals incorporate foreign mineral matter during growth phases. This specimen displays the classic warm palette of Brazilian Lodolite: terracotta reds and burnt oranges from Hematite and Iron Oxides, mossy earth tones from Chlorite inclusions, and delicate sprays of Rutile (Titanium Dioxide) threading through the composition like captured lightning. The result is a three-dimensional scene that shifts and transforms with each change in viewing angle.
The clarity of the host Quartz in this example is exceptional with areas of water-clear transparency framing and illuminating the inclusion zones, creating dramatic interplay between void and density. Fine Rutile needles, visible as hair-thin golden filaments, add a secondary layer of complexity, their presence indicating crystallisation temperatures above 450°C within Brazil's ancient pegmatite systems.
Minas Gerais remains the world's most prolific source of inclusion Quartz of this caliber, its complex geological history providing the precise conditions for multi-stage crystal growth and mineral incorporation over millions of years. Specimens combining Lodolite scenics with visible Rutilation in a single crystal of this size and clarity are comparatively rare.
Presented upon a bespoke stand, this piece invites extended contemplation; a contained universe of deep-earth processes, suspended in silicon dioxide.
