This exceptional specimen presents Seraphinite at monumental scale, a substantial mass of the rare Clinochlore variety, partially polished to reveal the silvery, feather-like chatoyancy that earned this stone its angelic name.
Seraphinite occurs in only one location on Earth: the Korshunovskoye iron deposit in Russia's remote Irkutsk Oblast, near Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia. This geographic exclusivity, combined with the logistical challenges of extraction from this isolated region, renders specimens of significant size exceptionally scarce in the international market.
The distinctive feathered appearance results from fibrous crystals of Clinochlore, a Magnesium Iron Aluminium Silicate of the Chlorite group, arranged in radiating, fan-like aggregates. These fibrous structures produce dramatic chatoyancy, the silvery reflections shifting and dancing with changes in viewing angle and light direction. The deep green colouration derives from iron within the crystal structure, while the russet-red exterior represents natural oxidation of iron-rich portions of the host rock.
Presented upon a clear acrylic base and scaled for significant interior presence, this piece transcends specimen status; Siberian earth transformed into sculptural statement, rare provenance paired with arresting natural beauty.
