A striking Pink Cat’s-Eye Tourmaline sphere displaying rich rose-pink colouration and a remarkable silky internal structure. The polished surface reveals dense parallel growth features and fibrous inclusions that interact with light to produce a subtle chatoyant, or cat’s-eye, effect that shifts across the sphere as it is viewed from different angles.
The specimen is composed of pink Elbaite Tourmaline, a complex Borosilicate mineral that crystallises in elongated, striated prisms. The distinctive chatoyancy is produced by countless microscopic tubular inclusions and parallel internal structures aligned along the crystal’s growth direction. When cut and polished into a sphere, these features create bands of reflected light that emphasise the mineral's internal architecture and natural growth patterns.
This Tourmaline formed within granitic Pegmatites, exceptionally coarse-grained igneous bodies enriched in rare elements such as Boron, Lithium, and Fluorine. During the final stages of Pegmatite crystallisation, mineral-rich fluids promoted the growth of large Tourmaline crystals, while fluctuations in chemistry and temperature produced the fibrous inclusions responsible for the cat’s-eye effect.
Russian Pegmatites are particularly noted for producing gem-quality Tourmaline with strong colour saturation and well-developed internal structures. This sphere showcases both the beauty of the mineral and the geological processes that governed its growth, preserving a record of crystallisation within one of nature’s most complex silicate minerals.
When light strikes its surface, a luminous band glides across the stone like the watchful eye of a cat—an effect created by fibrous inclusions within the crystal structure.
Pink Cat's Eye Tourmaline is a stone of the heart opening pathways to compassion and love while the cat's eye provides protection reminding one not to sacrifice one’s personal boundaries. It helps with emotional healing, gently dissolving old wounds, heartbreak, and patterns of self-sabotage that have closed one’s heart to receiving love.
It is also a powerful calming stone, helping to release stress, worry and anxiety, while encouraging strength and joy.
